I didn't know that there was a nude swim on Saturday nights at Templeton Pool. "Not too many people know about it," a guy at Carnegie Centre was saying, so they get a small crowd.
The swim is held on the last Saturday of every month. Templeton Pool, operated by the Vancouver Parks Board, is in East Vancouver, near Nanaimo & Hastings St.
More men than women show up, says the guy from Carnegie who himself is a regular. Mostly straight men. A few gay men, usually in couples. "A few families with children show up," he added.
People play volley ball in the middle of the pool. Some sit in the whirlpool or the sauna.
A couple of years ago, a women-only nude swim was organized at Templeton but it didn't last. Not enough women showed up.
The swim starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 9:30 or 10:00.
Afterwards, some of the swimmers go to a restaurant. With their clothes on of course.
