Woman Jumps from 7th Floor of Regent Hotel

The word on the Downtown Eastside is that a woman jumped from the 7th floor inside the Regent Hotel this afternoon. That's the hotel in the background of the above photo with red vertical lettering.
The woman whose boyfriend had reportedly hanged himself recently, died from her injuries.

One Downtown Eastsider said of people on the sidewalk outside the hotel, "Everybody was looking up."

We haven't confirmed that a woman jumped but two police cars and a ghost car were outside the Regent. Not just constables but a couple of higher ranking police officers were there as well. And an ambulance, we were told, had been at the scene earlier and ambulance attendants had gone inside the hotel.

A constable was questioning a civilian. You can see that if you look closely in the background of this photo, just below the Union Market sign.
At the Sally Ann soup line on Sunday night, a man was talking about the jumper at the Regent. He said that one under reported story is the number of people jumping from the Washington Hotel. One woman he said jumped but didn't die and is now a parapalegic.

Talk about a way to spread a rumor ...

Yes, it is an excellent way to spread truth too.

Truly, some went by the corner of Main and Hastings today at about 12:30 and sprayed the whole crowd in front of the Carnegie with bear spray. There were multiple people crying, gasping for breath and vomiting. One man was in the Carnegie washroom half naked throwing water all over himself and screaming that he couldn't breathe. Skip, Head of Carnegie Security, called the paramedics and they came to treat him, they put some cream all over his head to take away the sting. Soon, he was reasonably better, though his eyes were still swollen almost shut.
Was this the act of someone tired of drug dealers every where in front of Carnegie, or a was it retaliation for drug deal gone awry? Neither of these reasons would be justify it, but even more I hope it wasn't just someone's idea for sick entertainment

So that's what was going on!

At 12:30 or 12:40, two fire trucks pulled up alongside the Carnegie outdoor patio. A middle aged, tall, bald, caucasian man walked out to meet the firemen. He was gasping for breath, sweating profusely, and had lots of crumpled toilet paper hanging from his hand. He sat down and five firemen stood around him, along with two police officer and Skip, Carnegie's head of security. I thought he might be having a heart attack. But after reading your comment, Rachel, I'm assuming he had been sprayed.

Thanks for filling us in on that.
