That was after he gave Director Ethel Whitty the "Hitler salute".
Presumably an Incident Report was entered into the City of Vancouver-Carnegie "Security"database or big black binder. Security Incident Reports are written up on Downtown Eastsiders guilty of assorted forms of freedom of expression in relation to Whitty, her security boss Skip Everall, or other staff. But often what is written in the binder is City staff's self-serving version of the event.
When I think of David Wong, the phrase "elder abuse" crosses my mind. A few weeks ago, Wong got into an argument with a woman in the Carnegie cafeteria and when she walked past him afterwards, she shoved him out of her way and he went flying. He flipped backwards in the air, landed on his ass and banged his head on the floor. He made such a thump that security staff from the first floor came running up to the second floor. The woman who had shoved him was barred. Wong emerged from the incident unharmed. Amazing, since just a few months ago he was in the hospital as his health was poor.
David Wong is not always easy to get along with, to be honest. He's not violent but sometimes he gets overzealous about taking people's dishes off their table, and if somebody says, "Hey, I haven't finished eating yet", he can get upset and give them a loud calling down. But he can also be charming, especially to some of the women. Because his English is poor, it's difficult to know whether he's senile. Lots of people like him though. And of course CUPE likes him because he slaves away for crumbs and keeps the cafeteria running smoothly.
David Wong will no doubt survive into the new year to be barred yet again. And the Whitty-Everall barring projects that fill up their big black binder will survive well financed now that the City is imposing an increase in the head tax ...excuse me, property tax.

Half way down the page on this link below you will see what I'm talking about.
http://video.healthhaven.com/find.aspx?keyword=drug+mart
THE CARNEGIE CENTRE IN VANCOUVER'S DOWNTOWN EASTSIDE IS OFFICIALLY LISTED AS A RESOURCE FOR THE PURCHASING OF BOTH RX AND ILLICIT DRUGS THE CITY OF VANCOUVER MUST BE VERY PROUD OF THIS NATIONAL RECOGNITION. THE ONLY QUESTION I WOULD HAVE IS ARE THE PHARMACIST LICENSED
Health Haven is a Health related website that is from texas they have unkowingly listed a building owned and operated buy the city of Vancouver as a official link to a actual drug mart/ store /pharmacy.
The carnegie is located three hundred yards from the Vancouver Police Station there are over 2000 drug transactions daily on the very doorstep of this building.
re: David Wong
It's happened before, it'll happen again. I agree he's not an easy man always to get along with, but hardly a threat to the director. Unless of course, there was just a smidgeon of truth in the old codger's gesture.
The more I read on this blog, or whatever you want to call it, the more it sounds like whiny crying.
Just because Mr. Wong is old, does not allow him to behave in a way that is offensive to others. No matter what he has lived through, or that he has lived so long.
It's the same with the story below about wifi. Like it's Carnegies responsibility to provide free internet?
Get a grip!
anonymous,
"Just because Mr. Wong is old, does not allow him to behave in a way that is offensive to others."
I made no such claim.
"It's the same with the story below about wifi. Like it's Carnegies responsibility to provide free internet?"
I think the "responsibility" of Carnegie is to stop collecting millions in funding under the pretense that they are committed to helping the poor and that the poor desperately need them. When Carnegie povertarians think nobody's looking, they cut off the WiFi to the poor and hog it for themselves. They're admitting essentially that the poor can do just fine without them and go to Waves coffee shop for WiFi (Carnegie provided the only evening or weekend WiFi on the Downtown Eastside).
Denial of WiFi to anybody at Carnegie who isn't CUPE or management is a metaphor for the entire poverty industry: it services povertarians.
Why is WIFI a need? It makes more sense to cut it off and cancel funding for such a service. People live without it before. It's food and shelter that are needs. Sometimes I when you give people something, it becomes an entitlement and they forget that it was not a right in the first place. I do agree with you that they should not accept funding, but I agree on that point that WIFI is not something that should be funded. I question the justification as a need vs. a want.
Those horrible Carnegie staffers!!!!!!
Mayabe they should all get run over!
Damn them to hell!
you are wrong. where do you get your info? he was not kicked out for his hitler salute. whitty thought it was funny. i was there! he got kicked out for thowing things around about an hour later. hen he was bumped into by the woman he was bumped by a drunk woman who staggered into him. he did not fall or hit his head. he went after her and grabbed pushed her near the stairwell. as soon as he saw it was a woman he backed off. the woman was not barred or heard from again. also he is very gifted and highly educated. he is just old. and well loved. did you get his permission to take his pic?
bob
bob,
“you are wrong. where do you get your info? he was not kicked out for his hitler salute. whitty thought it was funny.”
A staff person was an eye-witness to Wong giving Whitty the “Hitler salute” and claimed Wong was barred for it. The staff person thought it was funny. A regular user of Carnegie didn’t witness the incident but heard about it and was laughing about it after wards.
Different people may have different accounts of the incident but to me the most interesting part is that people were enjoying the fact that Wong had given Whitty the “Hitler salute”.
In regards to the other incident, the one in which Wong went flying on his ass and cracked his head against the floor, that information came from a regular user of Carnegie who was an eye-witness to the incident while sitting in the cafeteria. That incident occurred weeks before the “Hitler salute” incident. The incident you mention, where a drunk woman staggered into Wong sounds like a different incident.
DID HE GIVE PERMISSION FOR THE PIC?
ALSO HOW DO I GET A BLOG?
Wow! Are you actually admitting that this story is on hearsay?????
I'm seriously doubting most of your "stories" now.
anonymous,
An eye-witness account is not "hearsay".
anonymous,
"DID HE GIVE PERMISSION FOR THE PIC?"
I'll have to check with the person who submitted it.
You are acting like a phoney. where did the pic come from and how did you get it? you did the article so tell the truth.
The person who submitted it said it was in a group email, but it was also on the Christmas tree last year. He's not sure it was on the tree this year.
If Mr. Wong is unhappy with it, we can take it down.
